Why is Baidu Pan so slow? What actually changes the speed
Free Baidu accounts get the bandwidth that paying members leave over. How slow that is, what changes it, and how to skip the wait.
Baidu Pan is slow by design. Free accounts get the download bandwidth that paying members leave over, so a large file can take hours or even days. Paying Baidu for SVIP lifts the limit; changing your network does not.
How slow is it?
In a test published by the Chinese news site The Paper in March 2025, a free account downloaded at 96–170 KB/s, while the same download with SVIP ran at 7–10 MB/s. Baidu's customer service explained that bandwidth goes to SVIP members first and the rest is shared among everyone else.
At 150 KB/s, a download takes roughly:
- 1 GB: about 2 hours
- 10 GB: about 19 hours
- 50 GB: about 4 days
Why it can be worse outside China
Baidu Netdisk is built for users in mainland China. From abroad, the data also crosses international links, which can slow it down further. A throttled free account on a long route makes large downloads impractical.
What changes the speed
- SVIP membership. This is what Baidu sells for speed. It needs a Baidu account and is paid in Chinese yuan on Baidu's membership page. It is worth it if you download from Baidu Pan regularly.
- A different network or a VPN changes the route, not your account's limit.
- More connections at once may help for a moment, but the limit belongs to the account, so it soon returns.
Skip the wait
If you only need the files from one share, PanPull downloads it for you. Paste the link into the link checker and you see the size and price before you pay. When your order is ready, you download it from PanPull's storage, not through a free Baidu account. Large shares take longer to prepare, and orders up to 150 MB are free.
See how your price is calculated. Use PanPull only for files you have the right to download.
Paste your share link
Check the total size first. You will see the full price before checkout; checking a link does not charge you.
